The COVID-19 environment has likely put a damper on summer plans, vacations, trips, and much more – but it does not have to ruin everything fun. The City of Chicago has been opening up attractions with defined restrictions, including mask restrictions and social distancing. Below is a list of venues and activities that have reopened in Chicago:
Shedd Aquarium
The Shedd Aquarium has reopened its doors to visitors! The aquarium has instituted wellness checks for its staff, increased cleaning in high-touch areas, a new one-way flow for increased social distancing, and more. Field Museum
The Field Museum is a staple in Chicago’s museum collection. The museum is now open Thursday through Monday 9 am to 5pm. Tickets must be purchased in advance and only the East entrance remains open. All visitors must wear a face covering and follow social distancing guidelines. Parts of the museum that are highly interactive or located in small spaces remain closed. Art Institute of Chicago
The Art Institute of Chicago, one of the most respected art museums in the world, reopened its doors to the public on July 30. The institute has introduced touchless entry, virtual lines for exhibits, and new signage. The museum will be open Thursday through Monday with limited hours. Museum of Science and Industry
The Museum of Science and Industry is a hands-on wonderland for all ages. The museum reopened its door fully on August 1st to all guests, with free admission through August 14th. The museum will be open Wednesday through Sunday. Admission tickets must be reserved before your visit. All guests will receive free admission through Aug. 14. Certain exhibits and experiences remain closed, like tours inside the Coal Mine and U-505 Submarine. Navy Pier
Navy Pier is open and accepting visitors. The staff has implemented strict cleaning procedures and safety precautions for its visitors. All guests over the age of two visiting Navy Pier are required to wear face masks covering the nose and mouth throughout their visit. Bring and wear your own face masks or coverings to limit exposure to and spreading of infection. Any guest without a mask will be able to purchase one at the Pier.
